Dingwall -- who earned C$277,000 a year in salary and allowances -- quit the day that the Journal de Montreal newspaper revealed he had charged the cost of a C$1.29 pack of chewing gum to his official expense account.

Official government documents showed that Dingwall's office racked up expenses of almost C$750,000 last year. He and his two closest aides spent C$130,000 on travel alone while one advisor billed C$5,300 for a single meal.

The Royal Canadian Mint is releasing 400 pattern .99999 fine gold Maple Leaf coins. RCM officials call the patterns the purest gold bullion coin in the world. The patterns are being sold to recover the department's experimental engineering costs, the first time experimental pieces or pattern pieces have been allowed to be sold.

Some of the non-US coins and odd tokens in my collection are bought and some are gifts from friends or family members that pick them up here or there or come back from traveling abroad.

Recently I was given a Canadian Penney, two Mexican Fifty Centavo pieces, and two Australian Pennies! Then at a local coin shops bid board I was winning bidder on a whole roll of 1967 Canadian Commemorative Pennies. I'll try to get some scans up when I can and prices for any pieces I decide to part with. I've also begun posting some items for sale at Gathered Treasure Forum for anyone interested to see what I've listed there.
